Waltham India Market is a two-level grocery spot that stands out in Waltham’s Moody Street area for anyone hunting down authentic ingredients from India, Asia, and parts of Africa. The lower floor is dedicated to fresh produce, where shoppers often spend extra time picking through a vibrant, if sometimes slightly aged, selection of fruits and vegetables not commonly found in mainstream supermarkets.

This market is especially useful for cooks who want to explore spices, snacks, and packaged goods that represent a range of Asian and African food cultures. The colorful aisles are filled with spices and specialty items that carry the kinds of aromas and textures often missing from regular grocery runs in the area. It’s also a place where you can grab something seasonally unique, like fresh coconuts in the summer, which adds a casual, local-market feel.

The atmosphere here reflects a bustling neighborhood market vibe rather than a polished grocery chain. The layout with two floors, the slightly worn produce, and the mix of imported goods create a genuine experience akin to shopping in markets abroad. Patrons familiar with Indian and Asian foods will appreciate the wide selection, while adventurous shoppers may find interesting surprises at every turn.

While the market offers some hot prepared meals, they are generally considered a secondary offering and perhaps not the main reason to stop by. Instead, most visitors come for the broad grocery selection and the specialized items that can be hard to source elsewhere in Waltham.

The staff tend to be polite and helpful, supporting first-timers trying to navigate new ingredients and products. Prices are competitive, which appeals to budget-conscious locals as well as those just looking to experiment with new flavors.

Best visited during weekday daytime or early afternoon when the produce is freshest and the space feels less crowded. For anyone interested in exploring beyond standard grocery store fare, Waltham India Market provides an accessible, authentic snapshot of South Asian and African food cultures right in the heart of Waltham.

Great selection of foreign food. Big produce section with lots of fun different stuff. Super cheap for the waltham area. In the summer they will sell you a fresh coconut with a straw in it. Check it out!

I love that you can find a lot of food (fresh and packed) from Africa and Asia. There are many treats and a variety of things. The downside is that their hot meals are not the best, and many of the fruits and vegetables have been there for a while, so you have to take your time picking out fresh produce. It really reminds me of stores in Africa and Asia, which is a nice feeling.

This is a market I will go to every time I'm in the area. Clean and stocked. Two levels, lower level is all the fresh produce. There are items that I can only find here, that I have never seen in any other local grocery store. The sights, the colorful spices, and the smells are absolutely astonishing. The choice for food, spices, products from India and Asian cuisine is off the charts. Love this place! *** One flaw! No street access, open store, but road closed. ****
